On paper, the 1990 CBA Boys
Soccer team looked like a champi
onship caliber squad. They returned
defenders Dave Bonney and Pat
Gilligan, and the entire midfield of
Todd Shanning, John Colella, and
Paul Goggi, and lost only two play
ers to graduation. However, the
combination of a lack of chemistry,
key injuries and bad luck proved dis
astrous as they just missed a chance
at the playoffs.
Throughout the season, the Broth
ers lost a number of games by the
slim margin of 1-0. Frequently, they

would outplay their opponents only
to lose the game in the waning mo
ments. Matters were not helped when
senior Todd Shanning was injured
in a car accident, and missed over
half the season. As a result, the
Brothers did not have enough of
fensive power and were unable to
score goals consistently.
It was a surprising season for the
school's J. V. Soccer team. The team
did well by finishing the season with
a winning record and also being very
cold and wet following the rainstorm
that occurred during their final game.

For some of the players, the sea
son proved to be exciting and fun.
For others, it proved to be a battle.
The team was a young one, full of
spirit and ready to fight. They did
well compared to some of the past
years of J. V. Soccer. The team
worked hard throughout the season,
winning proudly and losing honora
bly. They never let the losses get
them down, which may have been
the reason for their success. For many
it was just another season of hope
in building skills good enough to join
the varsity team next year.
