Sometimes it pays to be the un­
derdogs. Despite fielding an extraor­
dinarily young team in the first year
of the Girls Varsity Soccer, the girls
were able to turn the heat on. Led
by Coach Godwin Iwelumo, the
team had an impressive 10-8-2 over­
all record, and succeeded in making
it to Sectionals. The Lady Brothers'
success was due in large part to their
terminating defense and outstanding
goalkeeper. The defensive standouts
include Co-captain Jen Miller, Stef
Moffa, Carrie Markert, and Karen
Ball. Together, these girls helped tal­
ented goalkeeper, Heidi Aumiller,

to attain eight shut-outs out of ten
victories. Of course, the team was
glued together by the relentless mid­
fielders Chandra Ivey, Liz Romig,
and Heather Aumiller. No team ev­
er wins without attacking, and attack
is just what the Lady Brothers did led
by Erika Speach, Co-captain Cris­
tina Lombardi, and Kelly Romano.
Despite tough losses to powerhouses
such as ES-M, Watertown IHC, and
Tully, the team proved resilient even
in defeat. Key wins over Central
Square, Whitesboro and Nottingham
proved that a lot of work pays off.
The Junior High Cheerleading
team was comprised of twelve high
spirited girls who tumbled and climbed
into different formations, like pyra­
mids and towers. Under the leader­
ship of their coach, Mrs. Tornabene,
they cheered for the Junior High bas­
ketball teams as well as for the Fresh­
man Basketball team. To prepare for
those games, they practiced court
and sideline cheers with precision to
be in step and to raise the spirits of
both the teams and the audience.
Their hard work paid off as they
gained a wider audience at every
game they cheered.
