 The Modified Soccer teams ex
perienced a period of growth and
learning with their coaches. For most
of the young athletes the teams were
the first times they had a real chance
to play soccer.
Boys' Modified Soccer had a rea
sonably good season, with four wins
and seven losses. Coach Kevin Con
roy thought that one of the best
games of the season was against
North Syracuse, on a very cold and
rainy afternoon. After winning two
to zero, Chris Engle and other play
ers slid head first through the mud
Young Kickers
onto the sidelines. A highlight of the
season was a scrimmage against CBA
Albany, whose coach was Brother
James McDevitt, the former JFi prin
cipal at CBA, The championship of
the season was against Jamesville-
Dewitt Middle School. The score was
three to one in JD's favor, but they
played an excellent game neverthe
less.
Girls' Modified Soccer season
started out slowly. Even though they
practiced a lot and worked hard,
they were not able to win a game
at first, but they kept their spirits up
and hoped for the best. Later on,
they finally won a game against
Fowler, near the end of the season.
They played aggressively, and it
payed off.
Their coach, Heidi Seamans,
taught them a lot about the game
and was very well-liked by her play
ers. She encouraged them not to give
up and to continue working hard.
They lost their last game of the sea
son, but they had fun playing, and
that is what really counts.
