saw brilliant play by the team. The guard tandem of Derek
McCarthy and Billy Owens highlighted a renewed drive
by the squad. Through these middle games, it was the
bench and a balanced attack led by Seniors Shannon
Curley, Andy Nye, and Howard Jackson that gave the
hoopsters new life in the Cities League. The hope was
dashed, though, by disappointing losses to Bishop Lud-
den, Corcoran, and Nottingham.
In February, the problem became the loss of Andy Nye
and defeats at the hands of both Corcoran and Notting
ham. An exciting double overtime win against League
powerhouse Henninger indicated that the team’s strength
was developing just too late in the season. The last game
ended on a good note with a 55-52 win over Fowler.
Throughout the season, juniors Tom Sommers and
Chris Fletcher gave Coach Lee a promising outlook for
next year. Forward Bill Snow and guard Jeff Niland also
helped to fill the gaps.
