Though suffering the loss of eight top-notch Seniors, the
forensics team went into competition full-force. A weak
showing for the first half of the season exploded the
Iteam’s usual championship style in the second. Brother
lichard Gray whipped the tired old vets, as well as the
lew recruits, into shape. Brother Richard and Mr. Bren-
lan Charlebois, instituted a new “get tough’’ policy on
fraternization with the foreign philosophers of forensics
practicing with the group daily. He accompanied them on
their road trips to exotic places like Rochester and Utica.
Team trophies were garnered at six Central New York
tournaments, including Bishop Grimes, Post Byron, CBA,
and Bishop Kearney. At the prestigious Hendrick Hudson
tournament. Original Orator Jerry Mingolelli was a semi
finalist out of two hundred speakers. Eight members in
this year. Mr. Charlebois lent a great deal of his time,
cluding Steve Hays, John Ryan, Tom Hoffman, and
Armand DiScenna qualified for the finals in Albany. Ex
pectations were high for the Nationals in Chicago, espe
cially based on Senior Steve Hays’ performance.
The core of the group were Senior speakers Stephen
Hays, Thomas Hoffman, and first-timer Christopher
Edwards. From the ranks of veteran Juniors came Gerald
Mingolelli, John Ryan, and Armand DiScenna. Sopho
more vet, Lewis Kappeil, and newcomers Mark Larri-
son, Tom Young, and Stuart LaRose, rounded out the
team.
Going mobile, Marc Bernstein, Mark Larrison, and Steve Hays depart from CBA to conquer all forensic oppo nents,
Tom Young uses body motion to stress a point during his speech.
