From our Education Coordinator
Hellooooooooooooo Region 1!
So it’s finally the beginning of a new year that leads to singing together again!
I hope you took advantage of the Song Assessment Help Desk Nights in the fall and have your contest
pieces all checked. I’m hoping to get a couple more classes like this available to you this winter. With
Jessie Caynon-Oslan and Gail Jencik on the DEI Council (applause here) we will have two “insiders” who,
along with Corinna, can give us great direction.
Did all you Music Geeks attend our first annual GEEK WEEK? I hope you all got to taste the delights of
Music Theory, chords and beginning arranging. Stay tuned for info about our Barbershop Craft Week
February 22-26 - Two classes a night for the week - hey! maybe your rehearsal can include them in its
plan! I’m thinking about a “Visual Communication Category “week at the end of March or beginning of
April – that idea is going to be based on the reviews of Geek Week and BBS Craft week. The 2021
Colors of Harmony Fall Weekend planning is in the womb… BUT THE BIG NEWS…drum roll….
The RMT has decided to move the May Contest Weekend to June 18,19! Even though Regional
Competitions are cancelled, we feel we will have a greater chance of being together “in person” in June
than in May. We will have many more options to sing together if we meet in June since the OUTDOORS
can be our other room!! We will have some other things to do, too and I’m hoping to have some classes
and activities as well - and opportunities to sing! This is hot off the press and clearly COVID is the real
boss of this operation, so we are planning to be flexible and have options. We want you singing and we
want you safe. Let’s see what we can create!
Thank you to all of our educators for Geek week and this weekend! New faces, new material! In spite of it
all, complain as we might, Zoom forced us to look at things differently and that’s been a good thing.
Thanks to Stacey Strielkauskas for her creativity and emceeing and Lala for putting the Friday night show
together – and to all our “performers” for jumping in.
Thank Kate Bonci and her team of volunteer Tech Moderators and Chat Monitors for manning Geek Week
and this Winter 1-derland weekend! And a special thanks to Kate who orchestrated the whole magilla! She
put all these Zoom blocks to work!
Many thanks to the Region 1 Village for saying yes to new things and jumping in.
