Island Grove Chorus

How wonderful it was to hear all the quartets and choruses that participated in our Region 1 Contest this
year! Each one of you deserve to be commended for all your hard work, willingness, enthusiasm, and
bravery to be among the very first to go back in person. Hearing that barbershop harmony and seeing your
beautiful faces, either in person or on Facebook, gave us all that glimpse of hope of what we can all be
doing by next year. Thank you for the music !

IGC has been very busy learning and reviewing songs with our new Director, Yufen Yen. On June 10th
we participated, along with the Abington Community Chorus and the Abington Community Band, in
Abington’s 310th Anniversary Concert. Each group performed, and then a huge anniversary cake was cut
and enjoyed by all.

On July 10th, at Nisby field in Abington we will perform as the guests of the Abington Community Band
as they celebrate their 25th anniversary concert. It’s always fun to be in multi-group performances.
IGC is renewing efforts , like all of us, to recruit new members and advertise for gigs, so it was great that
our Marketing Team could display a nicely decorated table with many pictures and pamphlets at the June
11th Abington Summer Kickoff. Mary O’Loughlin also cleverly had kazoos for the children, to entice
them, along with the wanted adults, over to the table.

We plan to continue to have fun this summer, learning some new songs like A Million Dreams and
Anything Goes, and getting our Holiday repertoire started. And then there’s always the question of what
kind of a package can we dream up to perform in the Open Division for next year’s Contest!
