pretty, place the strips across the pie in one direction, leaving some
                breathing  room  between.  Lift  and  fold  back  every  other  strip  and

                place a dough strip across the center of the pan, over and under the
                existing ones. Replace the dough strips, lifting and folding the other
                strips  back.  Place  another  perpendicular  strip  and  basket  weave.
                Continue in this fashion, working from the center in both directions

                until the pie is covered. It can be helpful to build this not-lazy version
                of a lattice on a piece of parchment paper first and use the paper to
                transfer the entire woven lattice as a fait accompli to the surface of
                the pie.
