A NOTE TO PARENTS
Step into Reading Sticker Books with Marc Brown's Arthur:
• offer short, lively stories with interactive sticker fun.
• help teach beginning reading skills to the very young.
• reinforce word recognition for older children who need
practice by making reading as much fun as a game.
• encourage children to create their own stories with words
and pictures, an important first step in developing creative
writing skills.
Suggestions for using Step into Reading Sticker Books:
• First read the story aloud once or twice to the child; point
out the words printed in blue as you read them.
• Then ask the child to find the sticker that corresponds to
each blue word by looking on the first sticker page in the
center of the book. Remove the sticker and place it over the
matching blue word.
• The stickers on the second page illustrate places and
themes and allow the child to experiment with creative
writing and storytelling. Invite the child to add drawings of
his or her own—remember that children too young to write
can tell some great stories using only pictures!
