#TeachersMatter
As a part of Spartanburg School District Three’s #TeachersMatter campaign, the Board of
Trustees made personal home visits to each school’s Teacher of the Year to thank them for
their service. The Board members also placed signs in their yards announcing “A Spartan-
burg School District Three Teacher of the Year lives here.”
“The Board of Trustees were very excited and proud to make home visits and share a per-
sonal “Thank You” to our teachers. We are D-3 Proud!” said Jody Gilmer, chairperson of
the Board.
Lori Hefner, Teacher of the Year for Pacolet Elementary School stated, “Imagine hearing a
knock on your door and opening it to the smiling faces of Don and Judy Kennedy! The
board members of Spartanburg School District Three purchased these signs for the Teach-
ers of the Year! How incredibly thoughtful! I am so proud to be a part of District Three!”
Board member Ami Odom added, “We thought it would be great to recognize our Teachers
of the Year in the same fashion as our schools honor their students. Our teachers rise to
the occasion and do their best to make sure our students have the best educational experi-
ence possible. We are so very proud of our teachers!”
Spartanburg Three receives grant for school resource officer
Spartanburg School District Three is one of 38 South Carolina school
Districts to receive a grant to aid in the cost of a full-time school
resource officer because of a $2 million addition in the state’s 2018 -
2019 budget. Sixty-seven school districts applied for part of the $2
million in added state money in August. Prior to this year, the state
budget did not include any money for SROs. Instead, school districts,
local police agencies and local governments covered the cost for the
school resource officers.
