The Heraldic Crest or Coat of Arms
Adopted by the Region in 1993, the Heraldic Crest was used to represent all aspects of the Region until the introduction of the new symbol in 2002. The Crest is not ideally suited for many applications. It will still be used to represent the Region in very specific areas. The Regional logo is used to visually represent the Region of Waterloo and its various Departments, Divisions and agencies within the Region. The heraldic crest as shown above will use the ’Region of Waterloo’ not the ’Regional Municipality of Waterloo’.
The Crest will still appear on main facility signage but its primary usage will be to represent only official Regional and Council documents. Any other use of the Crest must be approved by the Director of Corporate Communications.
There are two primary configurations of the Crest. One is the shield by itself and the second version is the shield surrounded in a circular pattern containing the words ’Regional Municipality of Waterloo’. The new symbol uses only the words ’Region of Waterloo’.
Shown here are the letterhead and business card applications utilizing the Crest. As mentioned, this application will be used on a limited basis for official documents.

The circular version enclosing the heraldic shield will remain in use on existing corporate signage. It incorporates the wording ’The Regional Municipality of Waterloo’. As signage is changed to be updated with the Region logo the wording will read ’Region of Waterloo’.
