‘The Teacher of Germany’
His search began at age eighteen when he first read the Bible. As a result of John
Wycliffe’s work, the REFORMATION of the Church began through Martin Luther.

2. How can I find a way out of sin, if trying hard isn’t enough? Discuss.
Answer: - Humans are utterly powerless but the just shall live by faith. Humans are saved
through faith alone. In other words: It isn’t what you do, it is what you believe in your heart
that counts (although this of course affects what you do).
Luther’s Battle with the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church
He said, “Choose between Christ and the Pope.”
In 1517 he nailed his famous 95 theses (statements) to the door of Wittenburg Church. On
trial before the Emperor of Germany, he said, “My conscience is captive to the Word of God.
Here I stand – I can do no otherwise, so help me God.”
He then became an outlaw working on the Scriptures. Martin Luther fought to change people’s
thinking about God and daily life.
Today, many still believe religion is separate. For example: -
worship on Sundays
clergy / priests
costumes / robes
choirs
special voices
buildings
