7.3. Botswana Open University: Benchmarking exercise
Representatives from the Botswana Open University (BOU) visited the Unisa Library on 12th June 2019 for a benchmarking exercise. Unisa Library staff members shared best practices and engaged with BOU colleagues on, among other issues, the structure of the Library, the pro ling of units and centres, library policies, development and formulation, information technology support for the Library such as the Library App, research support, regional libraries, cataloguing and research data management

7.4. Unisa Library on the global stage
BOU’s mandate is to make education accessible to all in Botswana, especially for young school leavers and adults, using Open and Distance Learning (ODL) methodologies.
BOU’s benchmarking exercise with Unisa will be helpful to the institution’s current development phase on their quest to become an ODL Library.
The Department of Library and Information Services Executive Director, Dr Daisy Selematsela, was elected to the Executive of the Committee on Data (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC) for the period 2018-2020. CODATA was established in 1966 as an interdisciplinary committee of the International
Council for Science. It seeks to improve the compilation, evaluation, storage, and retrieval of data critical to science and technology. The Unisa Library is delighted to announce that, following her nomination by the Preservation of and Access to Scienti c and Technical Data Task Group (PASTD), Dr Selematsela received an award for excellence, in recognition of her role in knowledge management in Africa.
