1.4. 2019 Risk and Compliance Management
Through risk assessment the Department of Library and Information Services developed sound risk mitigation actions to ensure the achievement of strategic and operational targets and to provide a quality service to its clients. The high to very high risk identi ed and managed throughout 2019 were.
• Compromised / Poor service delivery to clients
• Loss of digitised resources
• Reputational damage for Unisa – failing to provide required services from and access to strategic important donated collections
• Compromised security of data
• Compromised quality of data
Low and moderate risks were managed on a sectional level. Therefore, the mitigation actions informed the actions as outlined in the operational plans. All risks are structured in such a way to be mitigated through the Operational Plans.
The Library also participated in a VAT and Income Tax compliance monitoring project in collaboration with the Department of Compliance at Unisa, commissioned by the Unisa Council during October and November 2019. The aim of the project was to review requirements of the Income Tax Act, No. 58 of 1962 (“the ITA”). The outcomes of the project provided the Library with assurance that all applicable ITA is not applicable to the Directorate: Library Procurement Services, Department of Library and Information Services.
2. Unisa Library at a glance (2019 facts &  gures)
The Department of Library and Information Service collections has seen increases in new items acquired throughout 2019 ranging from printed books, journals and audiovisual materials to electronic increases in online growth in the number and LibGuides created, and growth seen in the Unisa Institutional repository. The Library has also seen an increase in the use of the collections as indicated in the tables below. The of cial Social Media channels shows the library online engagement with the Unisa Library community during 2019.
