Curt Schaller
ARRI Product Manager
Curt Oswald Schaller began training as a camera assistant in 1984, later becoming a cameraman in
the Bavaria Film and Television Studios. In the early 90’s, he specialised in foreign documentary. In the mid 90’s, he worked as a cameraman in serial productions, then as a Steadicam operator
in TV series, lms, shows and documentaries. At the end of the 90’s, Curt used his experience as a Steadicam operator and began to develop his own camera stabilization systems. In 2016, Curt joined ARRI as Product Manager of Camera Stabilizer Systems, bringing with him his entire product portfolio which he will continue to develop, especially the artemis and TRINITY.
Creativity in Motion
ARRI TRINTY and Camera Stabilizer Systems Masterclass
Creativity beyond camera stabilization. TRINITY is the agship of the ARRI CSS range: the rst hybrid camera stabilizer that combines classic mechanical stabilization with advanced active electronic stabilization, provided via 32-bit ARM- based gimbal technology. This enables uniquely uid and precisely controlled movements for unrestricted operating and total creative freedom. ARRI’s Product Manager, Curt Schaller joins us to hold a masterclass and demonstrate the full range of ARRI’s Camera Stabilizer Systems.
New angles for the operator and new storytelling options for the director and cinematographer are possible with TRINITY. By inverting the post, the camera can be moved from low mode to high mode during a shot; using the joystick- controlled, fully stabilized tilt axis to look up or down during this motion is also possible, so a low angle can smoothly transition into an over-the-shoulder shot. By holding the post at 45 degrees and twisting it left or right, the camera
can even look around corners, whether in low or high mode. Additional stabilization in the roll axis permits the use of telephoto lenses. Extraordinary new shots, angles, and movements are achievable when TRINITY is used in its fully stabilized mode. For situations that call for a more traditional operating style, TRINITY can be switched into a locked mode in which the tilt axis is connected directly to the post in the traditional manner.
