I. “SANITARY” FITTINGS AND TUBING
How to Determine Tri-Clamp Size is determined by the outside diameter of the tube, NOT the outside
diameter of the ferrule. Simply measure the inside diameter of the pipe and this will be slightly less than the TC
size. The ferrule (the end piece that makes half of the connection to another TC fitting) is about .5" larger than the
TC size. In other words, a 1.5" TC fitting will have a ferrule whose outside diameter is about 2". Confusion arises
with 1" TC fittings because they use the same ferrule as 1.5" TC fittings.

To summarize, a 2.5" TC butterfly valve has a throughput (inside diameter) of nearly 2.5" and the ferrule ends of
the valve have outside diameter of ~3.063".
A 1" TC butterfly valve will have a inside diameter of nearly 1" and a 1.5" TC butterfly valve has an inside diameter
of nearly 1.5" and both have the same ferrule ends measuring ~2".
