A, but Withersfield won the first 5 of them, and the game.
in the Semi-Finals, at 4-1 up after 4 ends, it was looking good for Claydon/Barking, against
Withersfield A, but Withersfield won those last 3 ends to take the game 5-4. In the other semi-final,
And it was a very similar story between BBB and Hundon A. BBB held a 2 shot advantage with 2
ends to go, but Hundon also snatched the game 5-4.
In the Final, Hundon A (Ellen Grube, Kevin Salmon & Nick Wood) v Withersfield A (Neil Tuckey,
Stuart McNeil & Lisa Edmead), Yet another 5-4 result! Withersfield were off to the best start, taking
the first 3 ends to lead 4-0, and still held that same margin with 2 ends to go, at 5-1. Hundon chipped
1 back on the penultimate end, but couldn't do any better than 2 on the last, to fall one shot short.
Many thanks to everyone who entered, helped out, and contributed to the final profit of £660,
expecially Irene Robinson (the late Graham Robinson's mother), who was generous enough to con-
tribute £240 to cover the cost of the hall for the day, meaning that every penny raised was pure
              profit. Paul Daniels

The ECBA Eastern Counties Champion of Champions

Fours Winners: Suffolk - Tom Runnacles, Ally Hobbs, Clint & Emma Watling
Suffolk and Bedfordshire both won their first and second games, to lead the way, while Essex were
just behind on 3 points. While Beds recorded their first loss, Suffolk won again, as did Essex, putting
them second, still one point behind the leaders. The two leaders played one another in the penultimate
round of games, and it was Essex who narrowly came out on top, 9-8, taking them to the top of the
standings. Unfortunately for Essex, they couldn’t hold on to the top spot. They lost their final game,
while Suffolk won, and the top positions were swapped for one last time, Suffolk finishing on 8 points,
Essex on 7, and Bedfordshire on 6.
Triples Winners: Cambridgeshire - Amy & Simon Missing and Matt Thurley
Only Essex was able to win both of their opening games, and were already 2 points in the lead. And
they made it 3 wins out of 3, keeping them 2 points clear of Herts and Cambridgeshire, who also
won. But that run of wins came to an end, as Essex fell to Suffolk, and with Herts and Cambs both
winning, there was now a three-way tie for the lead, and all to play for with one game to go. And of
those 3 teams it was only Cambridgeshire who managed to win, handing them the title as they fin-
ished on 8 points, while Suffolk jumped up to second, just ahead of Essex on shots against.
Pairs Winners: Hertfordshire - Jason Ellis & Mary Cobbold
Hertfordshire won their first 2 games, to take an early lead, and maintained that perfect record after3
games, with Cambridgeshire and Essex a couple of points behind. Hertfordshire made it 4 wins out
of 4, holding a 2 point lead over Cambridgeshire and Essex. And with a decent shot advantage over
their nearest rivals, the title was almost theirs. Herts came close to maintaining their perfect record,
but finished the day with a draw. However they were comfortably clear of Cambridgeshire, by 2
              points, with Essex in third.
Singles Winner: Norfolk - Matt Frost

Essex and Norfolk were off to perfect starts, winning their first 3 games, and were 3 points clear of
the rest. The first slips for the leaders, as Norfolk were held to a draw, and Essex lost. Norfolk now
led by a point. The final game saw the two leaders playing one another, with the winner taking all,
and that winner was Norfolk, while Suffolk also won, to take the runner-up spot, while Essex fell to
              third.
                     Paul Daniels
My very special thanks to Paul, who obviously understands the importance of publicity to any sport,
in these days of falling numbers. So it is vital that we show what we do and what we organise. Along
with Selwyn Goldsmith in Short Mat Bowls, they are both very important in serving our players and
celebrating their triumphs whilst also recording the attempts of others and I hope they are appreciated
for their wonderful efforts, I certainly appreciate them. Bob W.
