Bob Carter see off Wymondham to claim second challenge cup 27
Bob Carter and Wymondham
met in the fourth challenge cup
final at Woodbastwick, with a
venue that is known for its
strange lines with both clubs
knowing the challenge that
awaited.
The first singles match's
saw Jack Pye take control of his
game against Jason Woods
picking up a four and three over
the first two ends to eventually
win 15-4.
Gary Best responded for Carter beating Chris Mann in a close match 8-12 with a dropped
brace on the last end sealing Mann's fate. The fours then came out which saw Wymondham's
Pat Saunders, Melvyn Barker, Debbie Sparham and Mark Linsdell come from dropping a five
on the first end to trailing by just 7-8 with an end remaining against Nigel Willard, Steve Bridge,
Rob Howlett and Jamie Forster.
Mark Linsdell's last bowl saw him faced with a tricky position with him four down on the
mat and with two touchers in the ditch he elected to attack with the draw not guaranteed but
having missed saw his four lose 7-12.
Bob Carter's Elaine Willies, John Turner, Simon Willies and Melvin Wood's were involved
in a tight match against Roger Steele, Brian Saunders, John Jeffery and Jon Sparham but a
dropped four by Wymondham on
end five was the difference and
eventually saw them beaten 5-8.
This result meant Carter had
claimed the shots by just one at 35-
36 and were now 2-8 up at the inter-
val. The mat's where then moved for
the second half with the cup system
meaning the away team stay on the
same mats.
The singles this time saw
Carter take the initiative with Chris
Mann in poor form against Jason
Woods and although the score was
at 6-6 Woods drew a great bowl to
the ditch line to claim a brace and
win 8-6.
Gary Best was again involved
in a tight match against Jack Pye
and had to produce two braces over
the last two ends to win
7-9, much to Pye's frustration,
meaning that Bob Carter had won
the cup with them on twelve points.
With the time already nearing ten o
clock the last fours session was not
played.
