The Professional Private Investigators Association of Colorado (PPIAC) has

advocated for private investigators in Colorado since its formation in 1978.
Licensing, education, and collaboration have always been a big part of our
association; when the Colorado Private Investigator licensing law went into
effect in 2015, the PPIAC began to focus more on providing educational
opportunities for private investigators.

Before there was a PI license, anyone could call themselves an ‘investigator,’
print up business cards, and begin accepting cases. People without a

background in the investigative field struggled to gain a foothold with even the
most basic subjects of PI work; those people coming from a law enforcement
or government background struggled equally with the business aspect of the
job. Educational opportunities were there, but they were often sporadic and
expensive for someone just starting out in the field of PI work.

CIDI came about when we began looking at the available training for
investigators (both beginning PIs and more seasoned PIs.) Although there are
many excellent training opportunities provided throughout the year, there was
a need for a comprehensive program that would enhance (and in turn, be
enhanced) by other educational courses provided by other associations and
organizations.

We believe in helping you to be the very best investigator that you can be. By
providing the introductory materials and walking you through some of the

more common elements of PI work, we hope to create an understanding of the
fundamentals of investigation.

To make this endeavor successful, we need you to arrive on time, pay attention,
and ask questions. Don’t be shy! If there is something you don’t understand,

ask us. If you have a question outside of the course hours, email
training@ppiac.org with the subject line “CIDI question.” We are here to help
you, the next generation of Professional Investigators, to gain the knowledge

and confidence you need as a foundation for your work in the arena of
Professional Investigations.
