What Do I Do Now? 61 term care, not just sell you a policy. AALTCI (American Association for Long Term Care Insur- ance) This is the leading professional association for Long Term Care Insurance. Long Term Care Planning Advisors that have voluntarily joined the AALTCI have shown their commitment to keeping up to date on all the latest news and trends in Long Term Care Insurance. If the advisor you are working with is not a member of at least one of these organizations, I urge caution. That doesn’t mean s/he is not a good advisor but it does mean that s/he needs to prove to you why s/he is qualifed to help you develop your plan for long term care. One last note on choosing someone to help you develop your plan: If your life insurance agent, fnancial advisor, broker, accoun- tant, etc. offers to sell you Long Term Care Insurance, by all means, talk to him/her. However, be prepared to walk away and start over with someone who specializes in Long Term Care Planning if your agent or advisor tries to sell you a policy without frst helping you develop a plan for long term care or fails to explain how the Long Term Care Insurance policy they are trying to sell you fts into your plan. They might be wonderful in other insurance and fnancial matters but they may not have the training necessary to effectively assist you in developing your long term care plan. Spread the news!
