Posteroanterior (Pa) view cXr
On a PA CXR, a patient’s front is placed against the lm
and the heart is minimally magni ed with sharp borders. An anteroposterior (AP) CXR is a lower quality lm that is placed under the patient’s back. On an AP CXR, the heart is farther from the lm and appears larger than it really is with blurred borders. Approach all chest lms the same way; check patient name and age as well as lm date, type, and quality, and
then look for major lines/tubes before reading the CXR itself (airway, bones, circulation, diaphragm, everything else).
