the rules on how to de ne the “care” in health care are changing. Mclaren health Care is facing this challenge head on, with perhaps our boldest strategic transition in 20 years.
“Our strength has been as a low-cost provider, but, with changes in the market, we can’t take that to the next level if our hospitals are doing things independently,” observes Mark O’Halla, executive vice president
and chief operating o cer of McLaren Health Care. A systemwide approach is needed not only to reach the next level of quality and cost savings, but to compete in the shifting health care world.
Such a transition has several major elements, encompassing both the care provided at our facilities and the practitioners who deliver it.
The rst changes push hard on integration of all McLaren facilities throughout Michigan, which is much more than just adding “McLaren” to the name over the door.
This demands a dramatic transformation in how McLaren Health Care views itself. Historically, we expected each of our entities to survive and thrive on its own. With the demands of modern health care, however, it is critical that
