I was the driver and my first 911 purchase was delayed for three months by a virus. I drove slowly and mostly I smiled. Except when I sniffled, and sobbed, because the moment was bigger than what my soft heart could take.
The 992 has the same solid feel as its older siblings. It is pure Porsche. Nothing less. Perhaps a lot more. The digital interior intimidates on occasion. Especially when your year of birth coincided with the birth-year of the 911. The power delivery is remarkable. Terrifying even. But I am as happy as can be, smiling, sobbing. But mostly smiling.
The pandemic became a reality for us South Africans by the end of March 2020. It was no longer a distant and foreign complication. It reached us and we en- tered our first three weeks of lockdown. Three weeks. Quite a bit of time. We knew it could be done with a degree of discomfort. And with perseverance. Little did we know that four months would be added to our isolation sentence.
The new car hardly moved during the solid lockdown months. Travel restrictions made you feel guilty to drive anywhere, with the destinations even more restricted. No sit-down cup of
