Bjorkman still flies; she became a private pilot,
and owns a Decathlon, kept in Washington state
where she owns a house.

Since 1948, women have officially served as full
members in all branches of the armed services.
But today is about recognizing the contributions women
have made to America’s defense long before that, and the
impact they will continue to make to our nation’s security
long into the future. We salute our women heroes.
