     U.S. Air Force maintainers from the 61st Aircraft Maintenance Unit load a
     GBU-31 joint direct attack munition on an F-35A Lightning II Aug. 9, at Luke
     Air Force Base. While using live GBU-31s is not a requirement in their syl-
     labus, 61st Fighter Squadron pilots employ live munitions as a capstone for
     finishing their surface attack phase of training, adding an additional level of
     focus for student pilots already completing a rigorous training curriculum.
