Diary of progress of Welwyn Senior School 20-2-1939, First Week Mr Jackson the builder, his son, the foreman and one other man arrived from Southend at 10.30 a.m. on Monday morning Feb. 20th. A lorry arrived containing two portable huts and in the afternoon the roadway to the new school was measured and pegged out. On the following day the two labourers, who were engaged, commenced to knock an opening in the wall. Another lorry arrived bringing wheel-barrows, planks, danger signs and other apparatus. The two portable huts were erected and one of the huts was used as a temporary residence by the foreman and his mate. 2
