Security Updates
Information Systems are currently implementing several key updates across the End User Laptop estate.
This is an important continuation of our drive to maintain security through patching and the application of current versions of software. The current program includes 2 significant updates that will require reboots:
- Windows 10 latest version
- FortiClient VPN software
These 2 updates provide security benefits and are a requirement for future upgrade projects. Where possible deployment takes place silently in the background. If required users will be prompted to reboot, however reboot prompts can be postponed until after normal working hours to avoid disruption during the working day. Please do execute the reboots at the end of day and allow the laptop to update and restart before you close-down completely for the night.
New Update Tools
To facilitate the above update programs, IS have implemented a new solution called Desktop Central that
enables us to identify deployed versions of software, allows detailed testing and planning of update strategies. The new tool enables IS to build packages that silently uninstall old versions and then deploy up to date versions of software, minimising the disruption to users.
Security and Home Working
As many of us continue to work from home it is time to remind ourselves of key security recommendations.
Identity  Be sure that you know who you are communicating with, whether this be by voice or email. Keep in mind the checks to detect SPAM including the senders real email address and the true destiny of any Links embedded in emails.
Always check the “tone” of emails and verify that reply to addresses are what you expect.
SPAM and Phishing emails  Be wary of clicking links in emails from unknown sources. Hover over Web URL links to check them. Check Reply to email addresses to check that the email address is actually what you think it is. For example: a recent Phishing email, that most certainly would have caused untold damage.
        Dear info, hello!
The remaining capacity of your current mailbox info@shs-drinks.co.uk is less than 2.01%.

Note: Please do not ignore
Strong passwords  Please continue to use strong passwords of a reasonable length and without using simple common words. NEVER write passwords down and leave them near your computer.
Secure physical assets  Please ensure SHS Group equipment is not left unattended for long periods in full view, even at the rear of properties
Unauthorised software  You must not download apps or software other than those specifically authorised by IS Support.
The requirement to keep commercially sensitive information confidential extends to your home working environment.
These tips are expanded on in more detail in the guides available on The Larder within the COVID-19 section.
