Zelenka named quality service award recipient
at Berkeley Medical Center
Anthony P. Zelenka, president and CEO of WVU Medicine East, was recently named Berkeley Medi-
cal Center’s Quality Service Award winner for May 2020.
Each month, the hospital’s service award committee selects a Quality Service Award recipient.
Zelenka received multiple nominations in recognition of his 12 years of outstanding leadership as he
prepares to retire on June 30.
Zelenka joined WVU Medicine in March 2008 with more than 30 years of healthcare management
experience. He served as president and CEO of Berkeley Medical Center for seven years until he
was named president and CEO for both Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers in 2015.
During his time with WVU Medicine, Zelenka has focused on expanding healthcare in the Eastern
Panhandle including the growth of hospital service lines, a number of strategic partnerships including
quality and performance improvements, technology upgrades and construction and renovation pro-
jects in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.
Criteria for selection as a Quality Service Award recipient includes: demonstrating a consistently high
level of productivity and quality of work along with a high degree of initiative in performing work re-
sponsibilities, displaying exceptional dependability, exhibiting effective relationships with others, dis-
playing a commitment to service and serving the Berkeley Medical Center community, and meeting
the criteria for the system’s mission, vision and values.
Nomination forms for the Quality Service Award are available at locations throughout the Berkeley
Medical Center campus. Anyone who witnesses an employee displaying outstanding service is en-
couraged to complete and submit a nomination form.
