Humanitarians and Next Gen We are honored to partner with you
What do people who give to others have in common? Well for one, they are
altruistic. They seek out ways to be of help to others and are energized by the
act of giving. Givers are optimistic. They understand that even one person can

make a difference. The people who join St. John’s Healthcare Foundation giving
societies are just those kind of people.
The Humanitarians gift society is St. John’s oldest giving society, established
in 1952 to raise funds to bridge a gap in fundraising for construction of a
modern St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard. The founders, a group of enthusiastic
men and women, each invested a substantial gift to make sure that the vision of
a new hospital could be realized.
Now in its 65th year, the Humanitarians continue to give generously to support
St. John’s Hospitals’ greatest needs. Humanitarians enjoy unique opportunities
to engage in dialogue with hospital staff and administration, and through
those human connections, play an important role in shaping the future of St.
John’s Hospitals. Last year, Humanitarians contributed to St. John’s Hospital’s
investment in state-of-the-art equipment for stroke detection and brain injury
recovery, equipment that is already saving lives.
The Next Generation (Next Gen) of Humanitarians has been established to
connect with our newest generation of leadership through social media and
health-related events – spreading the good word about the importance of
philanthropy to the future of health care in this community. Continuing in 2017,
Next Gen will be brainstorming the use of technology to outreach to a new
generation of philanthropists. If you consider yourself a Next Gen, or an expert,
do join us for an exciting year!
