Cancer Center
At the St. John’s Cancer Center of Ventura County, cutting-edge medical
Human connections within our community
care goes hand-in-hand with care from people who offer a human connection
that is so vital through a cancer journey. From cancer screening to breast
reconstruction, the Cancer Center offers support for our community, including
counseling, information, and connections for patients and their families to
medical and other essential resources – all free of charge. The Cancer Center
brings together first-class professionals who are informed about the latest
in cancer treatment options and who offer healing support through bilingual
education, support groups, yoga, exercise classes and relaxation therapies.
Our team includes Susan Speers, Oncology Nutrition Specialist, who inspires
patients and their families to make healthy food choices; and Alicia Zaragoza,
Cancer Program Nurse Manager, who is an Oncology nurse practitioner and
nurse navigator. Alicia works closely with patients to develop personalized
care plans that involve a patient’s family, care givers and medical providers
to help them navigate through cancer care that can be overwhelming. The
entire Cancer Center Staff is committed to providing the latest evidence based
treatment options for the best outcome.
The Cancer Center also provides a “Women under 40 Breast Cancer Early
Detection Program” to provide medically necessary diagnostic mammography
and ultrasound for underserved, uninsured and disenfranchised women under
the age of 40 who do not have the ability to pay the out-of-pocket expense.

community members have joined forces with the Cancer Center to support
cancer patients. Your investment has allowed us to promote preventive cancer

• Breast cancer navigations: 208
In 2016, the Cancer Center partnered with the Soroptimists International of
Oxnard via their “Bras for a Cause” event, to raise funds for breast cancer
• Navigation and educational services surgery comfort kit bags, and with The Pacific Corinthian Club’s “Ladies Who
Do Lunch” of Oxnard, who hold an annual fashion show and luncheon to raise
for other cancers: 1,781 funds for free wigs, hats, prosthesis, and other supplies for women undergoing
