Misinformation and lies still swirl after all this time. It astonishes me that so few people have looked at the full scope of this deception while passionate devotion to River seems to grow exponentially. Most of the books are tabloid junk. The questions are as urgent 27 years later as they were then, but today there are far more watchers to the tragic story.
According to the official autopsy, the LAPD Detective Mike Lee "Investigation" totals less than 2 pages, while some descriptions appear to conflict with other notations in the coroner's report, and.
The autopsy was conducted within hours of River's arrival at the morgue.
The coroner's final "Opinion" was rendered 12 days later, with no further input from the only 5 listed "Witnesses" and with nothing more presented from LAPD Homicide or from the detective.
Without any further examination of the evidence or questioning of those in the nightclub, and with Joaquin and Rain already flown to safety way back home in Florida, the "Opinion" concluded:
"Police investigation shows no indication of foul play at this point. The toxicology finding's are consistent with the history."
What 'history' does the coroner refer to?
This purported "history" was taken within hours of River's death, provided by a small number of witnesses; only two of whom ever met River, and one of them is his own Mother.
Thus it shows the Mother gave the coroner's report a "history" which seems to suggest the life of a long-term ‘junkie’, — but which in ignores the fact that the poisonous dosage of drugs in his stomach were very recent. They were not taken over a period of months but only hours earlier, at a crowded table in the tiny Viper Room night club.
These drugs were not in his body when he left his hotel, or he'd never have got out of his room. When these poisons were put in the deadly cocktail given to him by John Frusciante, they went instantly into his blood stream, killing him, He'd only been in the Viper Room half an hour before being tossed onto the sidewalk, where he lay dying another 20 minutes before his brother was told to call 911 by a photographer. That is the true "history."
It is absurd to imagine River entering a jammed nightclub bathroom where the door is already open with some bloke passing out joints, and then sniffing enough cocaine and heroin together so he could kill himself -- all this, in view of a standing crowd, while holding his guitar and getting ready to sing.
