Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan
PO Box 24112
Lansing, MI 48909
Dear Community Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
of Celebration.
As my home community, this event holds a special place in my heart. I am so pleased to join you
in welcoming civil rights activist, Ruby Bridges as this year's keynote speaker. This event is an
important commemoration of the life and work of Dr. King. Your theme, inspired by Thurgood
Marshall's quote, "The measure of a country's greatness is its ability to retain compassion in
times of crisis" is fitting for these historic times. I know this event involved incredible hard work
and planning and I applaud the efforts of those that made it possible.
Thank you for your support of the Commission and its important mission to honor the legacy of
Dr. King. I hope you have a memorable celebration.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
