2023 Honorary Chairperson
Mark McDaniel, President & CEO, leads a team of 100+ financial experts,
innovative thinkers, policy analysts and other professionals at Cinnaire.
Nationally recognized for his visionary leadership, Mark has over 30 years of
experience in affordable housing, community development, urban planning,
and market research. He is a champion for diversity, inclusion and equity both
in the workplace and in the communities he serves. Mark’s passion for helping
people and communities is infectious. He lives to serve others and to inspire
those around him to find their Why.
In 1993, Mark launched the Michigan Capital Fund for Housing, a tax credit
fund to support affordable housing in Michigan. Now known as Cinnaire, the
organization has invested more than $4.9 billion in community and economic
development across a 9-state footprint. Mark has strategically diversified
Cinnaire to provide access to permanent debt financing, construction lending,
technical assistance, predevelopment lending, real estate development,
youth leadership training and title services. Under Mark’s leadership, Cinnaire
has been recognized nationally as one of the Top 50 Nonprofits to work for,
a Crain’s Detroit Business Cool Place to Work and a Detroit Free Press Top
Workplace.
Mark has served on more than 25 local, state, and national non-profit and housing boards. He is currently or has served
as a founding board member for Michigan Habitat for Humanity; Michigan Housing Council, past president; NH&RA, board
member; FHLB Indiana, board member and chair of Housing Advisory Council; Michigan Community Capital, board member.
Mark is the honorary Chairperson and master of ceremonies for the Greater Lansing Area MLK Commission Annual Day of
Celebration, the nation’s largest MLK day celebration. In 2018, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan
named its scholarship program after Mark for his unrelenting support, forming the Mark S. McDaniel Legacy Scholarship.
