               Now, look at Table 2.4 to see a sampling of days and times when the NYSE was
               actually closed or halted from 1914 to 2001 and the reasons for the closing, it’s very
               interesting to see.

               Table 2.4 Examples of NYSE Special Closings

                 February 20, 1934        Opened @ 11:00 am          Delayed opening due to severe snowstorm.

                 November 22, 1963        Closed @ 2:07 pm           Assassination of President John F.
                                                                     Kennedy.
                 January 6-14, 1966       Closed @ 2:00 pm           Shortened hours due to transit strike.

                 July 7, 1969 to          Closed @ 2:30 every day  Paperwork Crisis.
                 September 26, 1969       for over 2-months

                 August 9, 1976           Closed @ 3:00 pm           Hurricane watch.
                 July 14, 1977            Closed all day             Black out in New York City.
                 March 30, 1981           Closed @ 3:17 pm           Assassination attempt on President
                                                                     Reagan.
                 October 23-30, 1987      Closed @ 2:00 pm every  Shortened hours following market fall of
                                          day for one week           October 19 and record breaking volume.
                 November 9-11, 1987      Closed @ 3:30 pm           Shortened hours due to trading floor and
                                                                     clerical staff strike.
                 December 18, 1995        Opened @ 10:30 am          Delayed opening due to computer systems
                                                                     trouble.
                 October 27, 1997         Closed @ 2:35 pm for       Circuit breakers triggered for first time when
