I have this maze of good and bad distractions that creates opportunities for getting lost. I find it painful to admit when I’ve ventured too far in a disappointing direction. But I’m reminded that ‘too far’ is necessary as it allows me to extend the timeline of playing. It not only shows me where I began and where I ended but also, more importantly, tangents taken.
It takes a fearless determination to throw away attempts that are repetitive and don’t move an idea forward. I have learned to accept loss and understand it as a fruitful act to wander. I can then analyze the point in the process where effort solved the problem.
