GENESIS Heart of David Study Bible
father of sons and daughters. All the days of Yered were nine hundred sixty-two years,
then he died.
Kanok lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methushelah. Kanok walked
with Elohim after he became the father of Methushelah three hundred years, and became
the father of sons and daughters. All the days of Kanok were three hundred sixty-five
years. Kanok walked with Elohim, and he was not, for Elohim took him.
Methushelah lived one hundred eighty-seven years, and became the father of
Lemek. Methushelah lived after he became the father of Lemek seven hundred eighty-two
years, and became the father of sons and daughters. All the days of Methushelah were nine
hundred sixty-nine years, then he died.
Lemek lived one hundred eighty-two years, and became the father of a son, and he
named him Noakh [relief], saying, “This one will bring us relief in our work and in the toil
of our hands, because of the ground which Yahweh has cursed.” Lemek lived after he
became the father of Noakh five hundred ninety-five years, and became the father of sons
and daughters. All the days of Lemek were seven hundred seventy-seven years, then he
died.
Noakh was five hundred years old, and Noakh became the father of Shem, Khawm,
and Yepheth.
It happened, when men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and
daughters were born to them, that Elohim’s sons saw that men’s daughters were beautiful,
and they took for themselves wives of all that they chose.
Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh;
yet will his days be one hundred twenty years.”
The Nephilim [fallen ones] were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when
Elohim’s sons came in to men’s daughters. They bore children to them. Those were the
tyrannical men who were of old, men of infamy.
Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every
imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Yahweh was sorry that
he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. Yahweh said, “I will destroy
man whom I have created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals,
creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noakh
found favor in Yahweh’s eyes.
This is the history of the generations of Noakh. Noakh was a righteous man,
blameless among the people of his time. Noakh walked with Elohim. Noakh became the
father of three sons: Shem, Khawm, and Yepheth. The earth was corrupt before Elohim,
and the earth was filled with violence. Elohim saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt,
for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
