The anchor bend (also known as the fisherman’s
bend) is another misnamed knot. It is actually a
useful hitch, handy for such jobs as securing the
mooring lines of small crafts to mooring rings.
It’s on the strong side, reducing the strength of a
line by only 25 to 30 percent, and it works well in
lines slippery from wetness or the slickness of the
