I was enrolled in the leadership program at my
high school which means that I was involved in
numerous extracurriculars during my 4 years of
high school. Each year I was a member of at least
5 clubs, teams or councils, yet I still managed to
maintain a high academic average without an
issue. Coming to Waterloo University, I hoped to do
the same, however, I quickly learned that this was
not a possibility. Currently I am a part of the
Waterloo Warriors Dance Team and I often
struggle to balance just that with my academics.
Although we only had three performances
throughout the school year, and practices only
start a week or two prior to the performance, it is
still dif cult for me to balance the two. I have
missed numerous practices to nish working on
assignments. I have also submitted assignments
that I know were not done to the best of my ability,
due to dance practices. Even though it gets
stressful at times, my strong passion for dance
pushes me through. However, not everyone is as
passionate about a club or team. Therefore,
someone else might just give up participating in
any extracurriculars to ensure their academic
success.
