B. Student Expulsion
At times, the behavior of a student can be considered so
serious as to justify total removal from the educational
program for a prolonged period of time. Actions meriting
expulsion are set forth in the student code of conduct. The
Superintendent may expel a student. Expulsion is the removal
of a student from more than ten (10) days, but not more than
one (1) year, unless the expulsion is extended in accordance
with Ohio law. An expulsion can extend beyond the end of the
school year if there are fewer school days than expulsion days
remaining. The Superintendent may apply any remaining part
or all of the period of the expulsion to the following school
year.
When the alleged misconduct becomes known, the
Superintendent shall do the following:
1. Give the student and the student's parent, guardian, to
custodian written notice of the intention to expel the
student with the notice to contain:
a. the reason(s) for the intended expulsion;
b. notification of the opportunity for the student
and the student's parent, guardian, custodian, or
representative to appear in person before the
Superintendent/designee to challenge the reasons
for the intended expulsion or otherwise to explain
the student's actions;
c. the time to appear which shall not be earlier than
three (3) nor later than five (5) school days after
the notice is given, unless the
Superintendent/designee grants an extension of
time at the request of the student, the student's
parent, or guardian, custodian, or representative;
