RE/MAX HOT AIR BALLOON IS A PERFECT TEACHING AID FOR 7TH GRADE SCIENCE STUDENTS AT BAKER MIDDLE SCHOOL!
Baker Middle School of Troy has had the RE/MAX of Southeastern Michigan “How Hot Air Rises” program come to their school not once, not twice, but three times! Seventh grade science teacher, Laura Kemp loves that the program ties in with the school’s science curriculum. She explains, “This assembly offers a real- world application of density and convection currents. We study density of air and the convection currents involved in local breezes. This is a phenomenal experience for our students to see a hot air balloon up close and personal.”
The RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Team is very flexible and can customize the program to fit a school’s needs.
Baker Middle School has held their event outside all three times, but had the students come inside to hear the presentation after the balloon is inflated.
Ms. Kemp feels that other schools would benefit from the program and would welcome the opportunity. From an educator’s perspective, she recommends that RE/MAX agents interested in hosting this program in their communities should send an email to their local school’s science department, district science coordinators, and building principals.
If you would like to contact Laura and ask her about her experience with the “How Hot Air Rises” program, email her at LKemp@troy.k12.mi.us.
