P. 5

 NOTE FROM THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
As a result of dedicated public safety agencies, support provided by the Board of Commissioners, and the efforts of the organization’s professional staff, CALEA has recognized another successful year.
More agencies are enrolled in accreditation programs than any other time in our history, with a greater number of enrollments each month for 84 consecutive months. Independent financial audits indicate control measures are appropriately applied and financial resources soundly managed. Technological solutions have yielded greater client resources and better business service capacities. And, staff has been deployed with a focus on supporting public safety agencies as they address contemporary issues.
During this reporting period five Commissioners completed their terms of service, including Steve Callahan, D. Ray Johnson, Pete Kassetas, Douglas Middleton, and David Moore. These Commissioners made tremendous contributions to public safety and helped guide several initiatives and committees in continued best practices.
Over the past year we continued to grow by working on strategies to support accreditation as a positive tool for ALL participating agencies. This work has influenced both enrolled and non-enrolled agencies by setting the standard for agencies to follow. More Compliance Services Members were added to staff during the year to support the delivery of annual assessment requirements. Efforts with the US Department of State - International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Section and the National Police Foundation expanded services for the delivery of accreditation as a resource in the country of Mexico. Partnering with the National Police Foundation we have applied research strategies that have supported best practices within the public safety spectrum. Additionally, web-based reporting tools were refined to ensure the collection of relevant data and the production of high-quality assessment reports.
With a focus on providing greater recognition and support for those serving as accreditation managers, the Commission continued to award Accreditation Manager Certifications. This effort required partnerships with other associations and the establishment of educational curriculums that were value-added for candidates. This initiative was indicative of our corporate awareness of the importance of the accreditation manager within the accredited agency, and how we want to provide ongoing support for the position in a highly responsible manner.
Although we always have more work to do in support of public safety, I think you will recognize in this publication an organization devoted to its core purpose. Within this message you clearly noticed the use of words like professional, value-added, supportive and relevant. CALEA has always anchored its mission to these attributes and we take great pride as a key service provider for the most noble profession, public safety.
