P. 34

For the Year Ended December 31, 2015
NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
6. RETIREMENT PLAN
CALEA sponsors a defined-contribution retirement plan in the form of a 403(b) annuity for all full-time staff. CALEA contributes 15% of each employee’s base compensation, beginning with the first full month of employment. Employees are fully vested in the plan after one year of service. The plan permits additional voluntary contributions by each employee. Retirement expense totaled $155,251 for the year ended December 31, 2015.
7. INCOME TAXES
CALEA is exempt from the payment of taxes on income other than net unrelated business income under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. No provision for income taxes is required for the year ended December 31, 2015, as CALEA had no net unrelated business income.
CALEA adopted the authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes included in ASC Topic 740, Income Taxes. These provisions provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity’s financial statements and prescribe a threshold of “more likely than not” for recognition and derecognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. CALEA performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions for the year ended December 31, 2015, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or that may have any effect on its tax-exempt status. As of December 31, 2015, the statute of limitations for tax years 2012 through 2014 remains open with the U.S. federal jurisdiction or the various states and local jurisdictions in which CALEA files tax returns. It
is CALEA’s policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in income tax expense. As of December 31, 2015, CALEA had no accrual for interest and/or penalties.
8. SUBSEQUENT EVENTS
In preparing these financial statements, CALEA has evaluated events and transactions for potential recognition or disclosure through March 10, 2016, the date the financial statements were available to be issued. There were no subsequent events identified that require recognition or disclosure in these financial statements.
