 • Laminates and Co-extrusions

Laminates and co-extrusions are planned to promote from the properties of two or more materials.
Technically laminates are two materials bonded together and co-extrusions are manifold polymers
extruded together from molten to structure a single piece substance.

The following laminates are used widely from sachets through to form-fill-seal cartons such as
 Tetrapaks.

 • Paper (or board) / Polythene (PE)
Characteristically the paper or board offers rigidity and an simply decorated surface while the
polythene gives heat-sealability and liquid containment. (But not a barrier in the true sense because
water vapor can pass through PE.) Figure 6.11 Packaging material wood

 • Paper or PET / Aluminum foil / Polythene
Bamboo is emerging as a packaging material.
Again the polythene provides heat-sealability while the aluminum foil provides barrier properties,

gloss finish. Here are a little reasons why you can feel excellent about Dell bamboo packaging:

 • PET/PE-EVOH (ethyl vinyl alcohol)-PE • It’s local — The bamboo used for our packaging grows close to the amenities that manufacture
our goods. This reduces our packaging-related carbon footprint.
As beyond but for a obvious elevated barrier laminate EVOH is used in place of foil.
           • It grows rapidly — Bamboo is the fastest mounting woody plant in the earth. It can nurture up
to 24" (nearly 61 cm) a day. It can be cultivated in just three to seven years — much quicker
than hardwoods. This makes bamboo greatly renewable and a immense substitute to foams,
              corrugate and molded paper pulp.

           • It’s strong and durable — Like steel, bamboo can withstand lots of stress while being stretched
or pulled, which is why it’s used for boats, construction scaffolding and other items that require
strength and flexibility. Because it’s so strong, we know it can guard your technology equipment
              successfully.

           • It’s a friend of the environment — Bamboo helps endorse vigorous soil. The plant’s deep
