will be on developing personal skills in the selection of clothing to suit figure, coloring, personality
and budget. Throughout the course a multitude of career paths available in the field of fashion will be
explored.

FOOD SCIENCE NUTRITION 5 Credits
Grades 10-12
Students will focus on the physical and chemical changes that occur during the production,
processing, and packaging of food preparation while using a variety of foods. Student engage in
scientific inquiry and problem solving through hands on experiences. This course provides insight
into the nutritional needs throughout the life cycle.
ENGLISH
ENGLISH I
Grade 9 5 Credits
The goal of English I is growth in Language Arts in all areas of communication, including specific
instruction aimed at developing mastery of skills for the PARCC. Emphasis is placed on effective
writing, analytical response to literature, and collaboration and discussion techniques. Both classic and
contemporary works will be studied in this multi-cultural, literature-based course and numerous genres
will be covered. Themes addressed are Coming of Age, Personal Journey, and Personal Transformation
as well as the Individual’s Struggle against Society. Vocabulary development, including vocabulary in
context is an important element of this course, as is the study of literary terms and their applications to
works studied. Students also will engage in the research process, using MLA style format to compose a
documented essay. In addition, students must complete a mandatory summer reading assignment prior to
entering this course.
FRESHMAN SEMINAR
Grade 9 5 Credits
Freshman Seminar is a required course designed to promote a successful transition between middle school
and high school. This cornerstone course will develop students’ skills in reading comprehension, analysis
of texts, as well as language arts and technology literacy needed for cross curricular research writing.
*This course is a requirement for all students who score Partial Proficient on the PARCC exam. This
course does not satisfy the English credit graduation requirement.
SOPHOMORE SEMINAR 5 Credits
Grade 10
Sophomore Seminar is a required English Language Arts course designed to promote a successful
transition between 9th and 10th grade. This cornerstone course will develop students’ skills in reading
comprehension, analysis of texts, as well as language arts and technology literacy needed for cross
curricular research writing.
