explores the basics of color, shadow, proportion and perspective. These areas are broadened and
emphasized through the use of watercolors, pastels, tempera, and acrylic paints. Students will also learn
about the art- related careers.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY 5 credits
Grades 11-12
Digital Photography will serve as an introduction to the digital camera, digital film, digital
darkroom and their application to the production of a body of contemporary photographic work.
Students will have the opportunity to use a digital camera and to manipulate digital photographs to
improve tonal range and contrast. They will combine and layer images to create dynamic effects.
Students will also look at the creative opportunities of blur effects, color correction and
monochromatic imaging.
DANCE I 5 Credits
Dance I: A program for novice dancers that enables students to be creative and express their own ideas,
feelings and/or inner visions through the performance of various genres of dance, including but not limited
to ballet, modern, African, jazz, hip hop and tap, and that focuses on the study and analysis of dance as a
cultural phenomenon. Gaining movement skills and finding confidence and enjoyment through movement
are a focus of this introductory course. Basic instruction in technique, choreography, Laban notation, dance
history, dance composition and anatomical awareness are introduced.
DANCE II 5 Credits
A program for experienced dancers to continue expressing their own ideas, feelings and/or inner visions
through the performance of various genres of dance, including but not limited to ballet, modern, African,
jazz, hip hop and tap, and that focuses on the study and analysis of dance as a cultural phenomenon.
Includes instruction, at an intermediate level, in technique, choreography, Laban notation, dance history, and
anatomical awareness. Dance criticism and composition are introduced in this course. Students are required
to create and perform in their own student choreographed pieces in the dance composition portion of this
course.
DANCE III 5 Credits
A program for pre-professional dancers to express their own ideas, feelings and/or inner visions at a higher
level through the performance of various genres of dance, including but not limited to ballet, modern,
African, jazz, hip hop and tap, and that focuses on the study and analysis of dance as a cultural phenomenon.
Includes instruction, at an advanced level, in technique, choreography, Laban notation, dance history,
criticism, composition, and anatomical awareness. Students are accepted into this course by audition only
and are required to create and perform in multiple student choreographed pieces.
