Below you will find assignment 1 for each of the two semesters (they are different). This assignment is especially important as it will gain you entry to the exam and is COMPULSORY. If you do not submit assignment 1, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO WRITE THE EXAM. Assignment 1 also counts towards your year mark. Refer to section 6 of this tutorial letter for information on the submission of assignments. There is also an additional assignment at the end of this section for self- assessment purposes only, for both semesters (do not submit this self-assessment assignment).

This assignment consists of one short written assignment of at least two type-written pages worth 25 marks – your mark out of 25 will be converted to a percentage. This question comes from the previous exam and will provide you with some idea of how the examination questions will be formulated.
