PLACE VALUE AND FACE VALUE

The place value of a digit in a number depends on the place it holds.

The face value of a digit is the digit itself.

                                                                                          4
Let us write the place value of the digits in the number 23 5 using an abacus.

                                 4
                              23 5 Th H T O

                                                                          5 ones or 5
                                                                                      4
                                                                          4 tens or 0
                                                                          3 hundreds or 300
                                                                          2 thousands or 2000

                                                      4
So, the place value of 5 in 23 5 is 5.
                                             4
                                                              4
                                                       4
the place value of in 23 5 is 0.
                                                      4
the place value of 3 in 23 5 is 300.
                                                      4
the place value of 2 in 23 5 is 2000.

                                                                                              4
Let us now write the place value of the digits in the number 567.
                        4
