Cuboid
We see so many objects around us that have
a shape similar to that of a cuboid such as a Vertex
matchbox, wooden almirah, brick and book. Face
Properties of a cuboid: Edge
A cuboid has 6 plane surfaces, 8 vertices and 12 edges.
l
Each face of a cuboid is rectangular in shape.
l
The opposite faces of a cuboid are identical.
l
Cube
Objects such as ice cubes, sugar cubes, dice and chalk
box resemble the shape of a cube. Vertex
Properties of a cube: Face
A cube has 6 faces, 8 vertices and 12 edges.
l
Each face of a cube is square shaped. Edge
l
All faces of a cube are identical to each other.
l
Cylinder
Objects such as a gas cylinder, can of a soft drink, tin of Plane
talcum powder, measuring jar, drum, tubelight, water surface
storage tank, thread-reel and log of wood have the shape
of a cylinder. Curved
surface
Properties of a cylinder:
A cylinder has 2 plane surfaces and 1 curved surface. Base
l
It has 2 edges in circular shape.
l Edge
It has no vertex.
l
The base and the top of the cylinder are of the same shape and size.
l
Sphere
Objects such as a woollen roll, football and globe have
the shape of a sphere.
Properties of a sphere: Curved
A sphere has only 1 curved face. surface
l
It has no vertex and no edge.
