3. Gerund




                     A gerund is a noun form from verb. A gerund


          always contain the ending “-ing”. Its function as a

          noun.



          The function of the gerund.









          1. The gerund as subject.


                     Flying makes me nervous. (Flying is a gerund


          that is subject of a sentence)



          2. The gerund as direct object.



                     Sarah enjoys singing. (Singing is a gerund that


          is direct object)


          3. The gerund as subject complement.



                     My dog’s favorite activity is sleeping. (Sleeping


          is gerund that is subject complement)



          4. The gerund as object of preposition.


                     We arrived in Madrid after driving all night.


          (Driving is gerund that is object of after)
