James Dickey: Deliverance
The novel Deliverance was his first novel published in 1970. But
did you know that U.S. Poet Laureate and author James Dickey wrote much of Deliverance in the second-floor study of Harrison Hall? At the time, Dickey was serving as a consultant for the Library of Congress and was a tenant of Harrison Hall from 1966-1968. The desk he used to write this great work of art is still in the house today. In 1972 Dickey’s novel was turned into a motion picture directed by John Boorman and stared Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox.
